What Is the Summer Camp Hosting Program? More Than Just a Visit

If you’ve heard about hosting, you might be wondering what it actually is. Think of it as part summer adventure, part cultural exchange—but with a purpose that goes far beyond either.

Hosting programs give children living in a different country the opportunity to spend a short time with safe, approved families in the United States. It’s a chance to experience everyday family life, build meaningful connections, and create memories that can last long after the visit ends.

It’s About Everyday Life

Hosting isn’t about planning a week packed with nonstop entertainment. (Good news—you don’t have to become a theme park tour guide—unless you really want to!)

Instead, it’s about welcoming a child into your family’s everyday rhythm. Think family dinners, movie nights, trips to the grocery store, playing catch in the backyard, baking cookies, or arguing over which board game to play next.

Those ordinary moments often become the most memorable.

A Meaningful Experience for Everyone

For children, hosting offers the chance to experience family life, explore a new culture, try new things, and build relationships with caring adults. It’s also an opportunity to simply enjoy being kids—laughing, playing, making friends, and discovering new favorite foods (or possibly deciding asparagus still isn’t their thing).

For families, hosting provides a chance to learn, grow, and experience a whole different culture in a very personal way. Some families go on to pursue adoption, while others discover they can support waiting children in different ways and share their stories with families who are interested in adopting. Either way, hosting has the power to change perspectives—and often hearts.

Meet the Boys

This summer, we’re excited to welcome five amazing boys through Gladney’s Taiwan Summer Camp hosting program. Soon, we’ll introduce you to Nelson, Finn, Timothy, Wilson, and Collin and share a little about their personalities, interests, and dreams.

We hope you’ll enjoy getting to know these incredible boys—and who knows? Their stories just might stay with you long after you’ve finished reading.
