Adult Adoptee

Central Adoption Registry (CAR)

Synopsis: Since Texas is a closed records state concerning adoption, Gladney is not at liberty to disclose the identity of birth family members. However, the Central Adoption Registry (formerly the Texas Voluntary Adoption Registry) was established in 1984 as a means for adult adoptees and birth family members to pursue contact in instances of mutual consent. A “match” occurs when both an adult adoptee, age 18 or older, and a birth parent/sibling independently register. To learn more about the Central Adoption Registry, please visit the DSHS/CAR website.
